Stuttgart Surge won the European League of Football (ELF), a new European football league, at the start.
In a close game, the Swabians prevailed against the Spanish representative Barcelona Dragons with 21:17. The Stuttgart had only secured success with a touchdown within the last two minutes. Six German teams as well as the two teams from Spain and Poland will fight in two divisions for the title, which will be awarded on September 26th in Düsseldorf.
Even before the first game, Commissioner Patrick Esume was certain that the ELF “would be the top European league from the start, not just in terms of media but also in terms of sport.” The point-rich opening game and the exciting subsequent duel seem to confirm the 47-year-old.
