The International Football Federation (FIFA) took to Twitter after the World Cup and announced that they consider Lionel Messi to be the best in the world, but later deleted the post.
Argentina won the Qatar football championship under Lionel Messi and the PSG star achieved the feat that had eluded him so far. Messi played fantastic throughout the tournament and scored seven goals, while his biggest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, only suffered. The Portuguese star could only score from a penalty, and Swedish captain Fernando Santos was on the bench early on. Ronaldo’s team was eliminated in the quarter-finals, but Messi became the world champion, so many thought it was finally over who is the better footballer between the two. FIFA has also taken a stand, sharing a post on Twitter announcing: the debate is closed, Messi is the best.
In the aftermath, Ronaldo fans blocked the media and voiced their outraged opinions. Subsequently, FIFA took action and deleted the original entry.
This reaction was also displeased by many who questioned FIFA’s professionalism and dismissed the investigation that they had discovered Ronald and then immediately canceled their post as a farce.
