‘Hi, we are StukTV and we would like to record a video at your demolition company’. For example, the recordings with Dylano (10) from Emmen for the Bijdehandjes episode of Wednesday on the YouTube channel of StukTV – with 2.5 million subscribers – must have been approximately made. And that demolition company belongs to Jopie van der Dam (58) from Oudehorne.
“I didn’t know StukTV. They wanted to come and wreck a car. I looked up the channel and then said it was fine ”, says Van der Dam. Giel de Winter, Thomas van der Vlugt and Stefan Jurriëns, the presenters of StukTV, wanted to make recordings for their series Bijdehandjes at the demolition company of Van der Dam. In that series, three children pitch an idea for an assignment every Wednesday. The three men then choose a winner and then record a video together with the child.
Dylano from Emmen
Last Wednesday, 10-year-old Dylano from Emmen won. And that is also the reason why StukTV ended up in Oudehorne. “They were looking for something in the neighborhood. And that’s how they ended up with me. ” Demolishing something, that was Dylano’s dream assignment. “It doesn’t matter with dynamite, a wrecking ball or hammer. Not even what it is, ” says de Emmenaar in the YouTube video.
The recordings took place a few weeks ago, on a Monday. Around half past twelve the crew arrived and around four o’clock the group left again. “The cameraman was from Brabant, who still had a 2.5 hour journey ahead of him.” All that was expected of Van der Dam was to arrange a scrap car. That became a Peugeot.
Bulldozer
Dylano presented the episode together with Jurriëns. The two started mildly, spraying graffiti on the car. After that it got a bit rougher; windows were smashed and the side was processed with a crowbar. But then Jurriëns saw a bulldozer. “I’ve never operated a bulldozer, is this a bad idea?” The presenter wonders. On the way in the bulldozer to the Peugeot, Jurriëns rams a few other cars and he can’t get the machine off. “This was a really bad idea.”
Van der Dam had to intervene. He turns off the bulldozer, but eventually tips over the Peugeot. “I think we can solve the damage to the other cars together.”
More frequent admissions
It is not the first time that the Van der Dam demolition company has acted as a recording location. A video clip was previously recorded and a number of photo shoots took place. “Skater Jorien ter Mors once had a photo shoot here for the magazine Helden. The company is suitable for that. You can show good decay, it doesn’t look slick here. Once in a while there is a request. ”
Van der Dam is satisfied with the final video. “The video looks very professional. Beautiful images of my company have been made, also with drones. That is all neat. ”
And the car broke down.
