NIJMEGEN – A fire not only destroyed a car in the night from Wednesday to Thursday on the General Smutsstraat in Nijmegen. In the car were belongings of the recently deceased mother of the owner of the car. Those were lost too.

The car burned out completely despite the efforts of the fire brigade who were called at 3:30 am. Local residents discovered the fire in the parked car shortly before and called 112. When the fire service arrived, the car was engulfed in flames, so the fire service could no longer prevent the car from largely burning out.

The owner of the car only heard on Thursday morning that her car had burned out. It was not parked in front of her own home. When the woman wanted to walk her dog on Thursday morning, she ran towards her car.

Upon seeing the burned-out car, the Nijmegen woman was shocked to find that the belongings of her recently deceased mother that were still in the car had also been destroyed. The interior and contents of the car completely fell prey to the flames.

It is unknown whether the police will investigate the cause of the fire.
