– It was surprising to me that there was such a great risk of being infected at a restaurant. I did not expect such a high number, says doctor Pawel Stefanoff at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) to TV 2.
The study took place in Oslo two weeks in March this year when the registered infection was at its highest in the capital. Then the restaurants in Oslo could only stay open for takeaway.
Stefanoff does not know why the risk of infection in restaurants is so great, but points out that the study was done in March when the infection pressure was high and the weather cold.
– Several may have been indoors, perhaps the air circulation was not so good. Viruses can survive on surfaces. Maybe people were not good enough to wash or wash their hands. It is difficult to say why, he says.
According to the FHI doctor, the risk of infection at restaurants is not as high now that the infection pressure is low and people largely use the outdoor cafes.
The study also shows that drinking alcohol at private parties increased the risk considerably, which is due to less caution and that one speaks louder.
A total of 1,050 people between the ages of 18 and 70 participated in the survey.
