Jean-Luc Pontvieux chairs the Maurice-Aliger association, created in 1994 on the initiative of Jean-Marc Roger in order to perpetuate and complete the work of Maurice-Aliger (1913-1993), archaeologist, historian, writer and former president from the Academy of Nîmes, originally from Nages.

Mr. Pontvieux, what is the purpose of this association?
The aim of the Maurice-Aliger association is to study the history and heritage of the Vaunage and the Vaunageoles, in order to allow as many people as possible to benefit from the fruit of its work, through its publications, conferences, tables rounds, symposiums, exhibitions and field trips. It also participates, including through sponsorship, in actions aimed at enhancing or safeguarding the heritage of the villages of Vaunage.
Does the association have projects, despite the covid?
Yes, projects are in progress, in particular a study on the bells of the various buildings (churches, temples, campaniles) of the nine villages of Vaunage. This project, launched at the start of 2021, is part of the more general framework of the FAHG collaborative project “Archaeological Federation and History of Gard” of which the association is a member. It will result in an exhibition of photos of this heritage inaccessible to the public and a conference accompanied by the publication of a booklet. There is also a conference on Doctor Gédéon Farel (1845-1925) on the life and work of this emblematic doctor from Calvisson, promoter of the renovation of the three mills and outdoor activities at Roc de Gachone.
The association has also decided to unite in their efforts with the association safeguarding the heritage of Boissières (ASPB) to develop a monograph of the village of Boissières.
This book will complement the six monographs of villages in Vaunage already published by the Maurice-Aliger association (Langlade, Saint-Côme, Clarensac, Caveirac, Calvisson and Congénies).
