Researchers have proven that the female immune system is stronger than the male due to female hormones. Progesterone and estrogen slow the rate at which the virus multiplies, leading to fewer symptoms. The male hormone – testosterone – often keeps immunity in place. Also because of testosterone, the area of the brain that controls body temperature is larger, which can lead to a higher fever in men. That’s why men don’t complain – they actually have more symptoms than women.
The term “man flu” or “man flu” also found its way into the Oxford English Dictionary as “a cold or minor illness that the man treats as if it were the flu or something more serious.”
The season of flu and viruses has settled in Romania. The number of cases is clearly increasing. We have 30% more cases compared to last week – and doctors expect more cases in the coming period. At the emergency room of the Matei Balș Institute of Infectious Diseases, around 200 patients with flu or other respiratory infections present themselves every day, given that, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of patients arriving at the room in one day on duty was 300.
