Study Says Epstein-Barr Virus Can Increase Long-Covid-19 Risk

Suara.com – Long Covid-19 is a condition in which a person experiences symptoms corona virus Covid-19 prolonged for weeks or months.

A study by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) reports that around 380,000 people in the UK experience Symptoms of Long Covid-19 which lasts for more than a year.

The same study also found that 835,000 people experienced Long Covid-19 for at least 12 weeks. Health experts also think that there is a possible relationship between the symptoms of Long Covid-19 and the reactivation of the Epstein-Barr virus.

About a third of people who recover from infection with the Covid-19 corona virus continue to experience prolonged symptoms known as Long Covid-19.

Symptoms of Long Covid-19 usually last around 12 weeks or more which usually include brain fog, skin rash or headache. Other symptoms of Long Covid-19 also include sore throat, insomnia, joints, and mild to severe fever.

A number of studies have shown that the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) which causes glandular fever could be the main reason for them to develop Long Covid-19 over a long period of time.

One study from Renmin Hospital at Wuhan University General Hospital, Hubei, looked more into the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and the symptoms of Long Covid-19.

The researchers looked at 67 people who were hospitalized for the Covid-19 coronavirus. Then, ordered them all to be tested for the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).

Of those 67 people, about 55 percent had a reactivated Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. They found that these patients were more likely to have a fever, although neither group of patients had an elevated body temperature in the hospital.

In addition, there were no other symptoms or vital signs that differed between the two groups.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as human herpes virus 4, is a member of the herpes virus family.

“EBV is one of the most common human viruses and is found worldwide. Most people become infected with EBV at some point in their lives,” the CDC said. Express.

EBV is usually spread most often through body fluids, especially saliva. EBV can cause infectious mononucleosis which is also called mono and other diseases.

Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) reactivation resulting from the inflammatory response to Covid-19 coronavirus infection may be the cause of Long Covid-19.

The Long Covid-19 study has outlined the first evidence linking EBV reactivation to Long Covid-19, as well as an analysis of the prevalence of Long Covid-19.

“We ran EBV antibody tests on recovered Covid-19 patients and then compared the EBV reactivation rates of those with Long Covid-19 symptoms with those without Long Covid-19 symptoms,” said study lead author Jeffrey E Gold.

He also said that the majority of patients who experience Long Covid-19 symptoms are usually positive for EBV reactivation. However, only 10 percent of the control group showed reactivation of EBV.

The researchers surveyed 185 randomly selected patients who recovered from the Covid-19 coronavirus and found that 30.3 percent of patients experienced consistent Long Covid-19 symptoms, including asymptomatic coronavirus patients.

Professor Lawrence Young, a virologist at the University of Warwick, said: “People who take Long Covid-19 treatment can reduce the effects of EBV and other viruses from the same family.
