As the Tour de France approaches this summer, Buycycle carried out a study aimed at promoting cycling in France by classifying the best cycling cities in 2024. The results have just been published and Toulouse is at the top of the ranking.
Many factors taken into account
The analysis, carried out by Buycycle experts, took into account several factors to reveal the best cities to cycle around this year. These include the number of bike sharing stations, the number of cycle routes per city, weather trends and the general feeling of cyclists. The total length of cycle routes, the relief of the regions, the number of bicycle shops in each city and the traffic, are also present in the criteria.

Paris thus takes first place. With a total of 20,131 cycle routesoverall cyclist sentiment rated at 3.33, 185 bike shops and 127 sharing stations in total, experienced and beginner cyclists are full of praise for the capital.
Lyon, takes second place with its 178 sharing stations, its 132 bicycle shops and more than 3,729 different cycle routes. With a general feeling among cyclists of 3.51, the city is ahead of Paris in this aspect.
Strasbourg thus closes the last step of the podium by placing itself in third position. Located not far from the Franco-German border, and home to “magnificent historic buildings”, the first city in Alsace displays a general feeling among cyclists of 4.18, i.e. “the second best score among the 40 locations analyzed”, specifies the study. It also includes 3,059 cycle routes and “one of the lowest air pollution scores, i.e. 23 out of 500”, out of the 40 cities studied.
