Study on end-of-life care during the Corona pandemic

A team from the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Hannover Medical School (MHH) would like to scientifically investigate the care of dying people during the corona pandemic. The project is looking for interview partners who lost a loved one between March 2020 and January 2023 and are willing to talk about their experiences. Accompanying terminally ill relatives or friends was particularly difficult during the corona period.

As the MHH announced, restrictions on visits to hospitals and concerns about contamination and infections made it difficult to provide care in the final phase of life. Many relatives and friends were unable to say goodbye properly, and funeral ceremonies were not possible in the desired setting.

According to the scientists, the plan is for the participants to conduct an interview lasting around one hour and answer a short questionnaire. If necessary, an interpreter will be made available for the interview. This is a project run by the Institute for General Medicine and Palliative Medicine at the MHH in cooperation with the Clinic for Palliative Medicine at the University Medical Center Göttingen.
