If you look more closely at the age groups, there are huge differences. Among 14 to 29 year olds, less than half – 48 percent – regularly watch the current TV program. Among 30 to 49 year olds, the figure is 61 percent and among 50 to 69 year olds, 87 percent. In the 70+ age group, 95 percent watch TV regularly.
What about YouTube videos?
A completely different picture emerges when looking at regular consumption of YouTube videos. The youngest age group leads here with 78 percent. Among those over 70, it is only one in ten (10 percent). These are some of the many results of the study, which deals with media use in Germany.
The market research institute GIM surveyed 2,500 German-speaking people aged 14 and over on behalf of ARD and ZDF from February 12 to May 5. 70 percent answered questions by telephone based on a representative sample, and 30 percent answered online.
With the new edition of the study, the ARD/ZDF research commission has also merged the two long-term studies “ARD/ZDF Mass Communication Trends” and “ARD/ZDF Online Study”. Both have been in existence since 1964 and 1997 respectively and deal with developments in media use in Germany. According to the information, the step also leads to a reduction in the effort and costs of research. The ARD/ZDF media study is published annually./rin/DP/men
