Mouthwash is an essential measure for maintaining oral health, but its misuse and indulgence in swallowing it have serious consequences for eye safety, according to a recent case study which reported that ingesting the substance caused the blindness.
reported the newspaper Daily Express A study reported in the Survey of Opthomology dealt with the case of a man whose vision decreased for no apparent reason.
The study reported that one case of decreased vision occurred in the man’s eyes, despite having undergone cataract surgery months ago, before his vision was impaired.
The study team noted that the man continued to swallow the lotion, and by breaking the wrong habit, his eyesight improved.
The team said the case would have continued with optic nerve atrophy and even blindness if the man had not stopped swallowing the lotion.
It has been reported that drinking alcoholic beverages is known to cause optic nerve atrophy due to intoxication.
