Study Finds Optimal Daily Steps for Preventing Obesity, Diabetes, and More

The scientists who conducted the experiment analyzed data from participants who regularly used fitness bracelets for at least six months. Their average activity was tracked over 4 years.

The study results showed that increasing physical activity is associated with a reduced risk of obesity. The optimal level for preventing hypertension and diabetes was the number of steps per day in the range of 8000-9000. Interestingly, further increases in steps did not provide additional benefits.

According to the study’s findings, a level of about 8,200 steps and above becomes the optimal point at which the risk of obesity, sleep apnea and major depressive disorder begins to decrease. It was noted that in overweight people who increased the number of steps to 11,000 per day, the effectiveness of weight loss increases, and the risk of obesity decreases by 64%.

These results highlight the importance of an active lifestyle for maintaining health and preventing various diseases. It is optimal to spend at least 30-40 minutes a day walking, walking in the park or simply walking at an intense pace; this can be done even on the spot, while watching TV.
