Study: A healthy diet reduces the development of prostate cancer

A study conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins University revealed that following a healthy diet may reduce the development of prostate cancer.

Many men diagnosed with low-grade prostate cancer are interested in changes they can make to reduce the risk of their tumor turning into a more aggressive condition, and the role of diet and nutrition is one of the questions most common, according to the Medical Express Website.

Because people with this type of tumor are encouraged to make changes, researchers have monitored their diet, lifestyle and exposure to external factors for 20 years.

During active surveillance, biopsies are done regularly to look for changes in prostate cancer that could move it to a stage 1 to 5 group.

During a 6 1/2-year evaluation of 886 patients, 187 men (21%) were reclassified as grade 2 or higher, and 55 (6%) of them were reclassified as grade 3 or higher.

Diet quality was associated with an approximately 15% reduction in reclassification to the grade 2 or higher group, and a 30% reduction in reclassification to the grade 3 or higher group, the researchers said.
