“Timeless silhouettes reinvent modernity” is the original intention shared by Nick Wakeman, founder and creative director of Studio Nicholson, and Zara during the creative process. Wakeman continues her own lifestyle and connects the three series one by one. They jointly demonstrate her taste, style and the concept of always putting materials as the core.
“The determination to push the boundaries of convention with innovative fabrics and natural materials has been at the forefront of the entire collection, and it’s something I’m very proud of. We have always been committed to sourcing high-quality fabrics with rigorous qualifications. Since founding Studio Nicholson in 2010, ‘Material first’ has always been my motto. For me, texture is paramount,” Wakeman explains.
The silhouettes of Studio Nicholson + Zara women’s clothing are derived from Nick Wakeman’s consistent rigor and sophistication. A series of classic deconstructed pieces share the same design language as Studio Nicholson’s modular wardrobe, and each item has an avant-garde style. At the heart of these simple and vivid designs is a combination of well-defined, angular modern garments and advanced manufacturing techniques. Shoppers can expect to find a classic windbreaker in premium cotton, or for colder weather, opt for a winter jacket made with recycled down (as well as a waterproof recycled nylon outer shell).
Whether it’s single-pleat embellished trousers made of RWS Responsible Wool Standard certified materials, belted dresses and denim products made of premium cotton, or knitwear made from recycled cashmere blends, these fabrics have all been verified for quality. Shoes and accessories are made from carefully selected leathers – also ensuring the texture is not limited to the garments, ensuring a consistent quality throughout the capsule wardrobe. Nick Wakeman made clear the compatibility of looks throughout the collection, creating a collection of timeless outfits.
Men’s clothing uses the “kit-of-parts component composition” theory in architectural design, and the single product puts ease of wear and comfort first. Each item has its own characteristics, is classified and decorated, and is a collection made of materials of the same level as women’s clothing. Add a sense of relaxation and casualness to the charm of modern men. Highly practical silhouette trousers from RWS wool are paired with sporty jackets made of recycled polyester, or zippered sweatshirts made from a blend of eco-friendly viscose and recycled wool.
A wool jacket made of 77% RWS wool and 23% nylon is this iconic winter item, injecting classic charm into the casual sports style. In addition, Nick Wakeman has relaunched a tie, bringing the “finishing touch” of nostalgic men’s clothing back to the forefront of fashion, bringing surprises to combined looks. The capsule collection has a soft structure and is tailored to fit the body shape. It strives to create clothing that brings confidence to the wearer and pursues a spontaneous and comfortable wearing experience.
Talking about homewares, Nick Wakeman explained, “This is another exciting area that Zara invites us to explore together. The works include a marble table lamp with a paper shade, an RWS wool blanket made of the same material as the clothing, and I design compositional objects for multifunctional purposes. I hope these pieces will bring an enhancement to our homes and spaces. Studio Nicholson has always had a hidden rebellious streak, going against ephemeral trends and accepted traditions. Therefore, I would not place them Classified as “furniture,” they are instead described as “accents” designed to add texture and interest to a room, much like the layers we layer in our modular wardrobes each season. Home is our personal space— —This is where we can make our own rules!”
Excellent design should be accessible to all consumers. Every detail has gone through the process of initial design, prototype engraving and final perfection, without any omissions. This collaboration with Zara will undoubtedly fascinate fans of both brands.
From November 25th to December 3rd, Studio Nicholson + Zara will open a special limited-time experience space in Fanji Living Room (370 Wukang Road, Shanghai) for the official release of the series. The three-story limited-time experience space continues the minimalist style of the series, comprehensively displaying women’s clothing, men’s clothing and home furnishing series in sequence, interpreting the epitome of Studio Nicholson + Zara’s architectural elements – functionality, modernity and fun, which are transformed when fed back to the clothing. Integrity: Elegant and smooth structure, exquisite tailoring details, and timeless practical design. In order to convey the core of the joint series, the limited-time space maintains the quiet atmosphere and aesthetic charm of the Fanji living room. By integrating metal, fabric, plants, ceramics and carefully planned light and shadow, the natural organic sense and modernity are cleverly blended – the entire series are thoughtfully placed throughout the house, constructing a unique narrative in every corner.
Taking advantage of this second cooperation opportunity with Zara, Nick Wakeman was present in person to witness the launch of the joint series in Asia. After the media opening day on the 24th, this limited-time experience space will welcome all customers and fashion lovers to explore from November 25th to December 3rd.
