Students: “We will sink Athens” – On Friday, inside and outside Parliament, the climax for private universities – 2024-03-08 17:01:03

Tomorrow Friday (8/3) the government’s bill for the establishment of non-state universities will be voted in the Parliament, with the result that the academic community and especially the students will culminate their mobilizations nationwide.

Already the rectorship of EKPA is under occupation, as the student associations of Athens are escalating their struggle, against a bill that violates article 16 of the Constitution.

At the same time, students in Thessaloniki proceeded to symbolically block the entrance to the Rectorate of AUTH, as well as the entrance to Ethnikis Amynis street, to the old Philosophical School and the Polytechnic.

“We will sink Athens”

Tens of thousands of students are expected to be on the streets of the center on Friday marching towards the Constitution, as the Student Unions of Athens say “we continue and escalate our fight against the bill, with the nationwide march of the Student Unions, on March 8”.

In fact, it is reported that Pierrakaki’s bill “promotes the further dissolution of free public education” and it is emphasized that “the establishment of private Universities leads to the complete dissolution of our degrees and the downgrading of public HEIs”.

At the same time, it is noted that “we will overwhelm Athens with the pan-Hellenic mobilization of the clubs and we will claim to the end public – free education. The Student Unions all over Greece, all the institutions of the university and higher education community, labor unions, students, collectives will become a raging river as long as the bill that destroys our studies, our future and our perspective is passed in the Parliament”.

Finally, the student associations of Athens conclude “all at the nationwide student rally on Friday, March 8, the day of the passing of the bill, at 12.00 in the Propylaea! Let Athens sink.”

The government is isolated in Parliament

The escalation of the mobilizations takes place at a time when the government is isolated within the parliament and is being hammered by the opposition parties. The point of the spear at the level of criticism is that the bill is unconstitutional.

Finally, it is noted that in all opinion polls, the majority of young men and women are against the bill, as a result of which Maximos is worried about the election result in these age categories.
