The Institutions Santo Tomás (ST) Iquique headquarters officially began the class period for new students belonging to all the careers of the ST University (UST), Professional Institute (IP) and Technical Training Center (CFT). This year and due to the pandemic, everything that was previously done in person, now was through virtuality, a situation that did not prevent academics, heads and career directions from delivering a cordial and first greeting, as well as a presentation by Teams, about everything about the institution where the new tomasinos and tomasinas will begin their path to Higher Education.

In this way, the new students were able to receive orientation and knowledge about the infrastructure through the 360 Virtual Tour, which digitally shows images of the entire headquarters, and about each of the areas that make up Santo Tomás, with the opening of the Week of Induction to University Life (IVU) for the UST and Zero Week for the students of the IP and CFT, where they could visualize what the institution is like, how the Library works, what the Learning Center does, the activities and support from the Directorate of Student Affairs (DAE), among other relevant units, which throughout the training process, will be of great support for the students.

About this, Lorena Peralta, tomasina who entered the career of Higher Level Nursing Technician (TENS) at the CFTST, commented that, “my experience in Zero Week was very rewarding and enriching, because I am 33 years old and after delaying for a long time due to raising my children, I feel very excited to start this new personal challenge. “The workshops and the teachers in charge were of great help to me, every day they motivate me and I convince myself more, that this technical career that I chose is my thing”.
For Emma González, new student of Psychology at UST of the afternoon session highlighted the instance of orientation. “This year I decided to grow as a person and after finding out about the university with the best recognition in the country, I decided to enter here. So far I have no regrets, we have been induction for almost two weeks now and I find it wonderful. Much support from teachers, directors and career chief. I feel accompanied to take my first steps to university higher education”.
In that sense, for Traicy Santos, from the IPST Social Service careerThis week “has been very rich in knowledge, because a few years ago I stopped studying and leveling is important to start the academic year. It is also important to mention that the authorities of Santo Tomás presented themselves and provided clarity on the regular channels and on the platform that will be used this semester of asynchronous week. The departments that will be of great help to me are the Learning Center, Library and DAE ”.
