Würzburg. After three semesters with severe restrictions due to the corona pandemic, the Julius Maximilians University (JMU) Würzburg should once again become a place where students and teachers can meet directly. The framework of the Free State of Bavaria for its universities from September provides the basis for this.

“We are looking forward to a winter semester 2021/22, which can take place with a lot of classroom teaching,” says JMU President Paul Pauli. “At the same time, however, innovative digital formats that have been developed and optimized in the past semesters can be retained – teaching after Corona should be better and more diverse than before the pandemic,” Pauli continues.
Depending on the professional requirements, the ideal teaching format can be selected in most courses.
Access to closed spaces
Students are therefore only allowed access to closed rooms at the university if they can prove that they have been fully vaccinated, recovered or tested negative for Corona (3G). Although the recently amended Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance gives the option of 2G or 3G plus (vaccinated, recovered and PCR-tested people), the university will start the winter semester uniformly with the 3G rule. Corona tests have been chargeable nationwide since October 11th. For students in Bavaria, the tests remain free until November 30th.

“We strongly recommend that those who have not yet been vaccinated should take advantage of a vaccination offer,” says the JMU President. The university is again offering a vaccination appointment on October 15 at the canteen on Campus North (11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.).
Should infections occur despite all the precautionary measures, it must be possible to quickly clear up chains of infection and inform potential contact persons. That is why the contact details of the students are recorded in face-to-face teaching. As before, students can register using the JMU’s UniNow app as well as using paper forms that are available at the entrances to the classrooms. When registering, students will in future submit a declaration of self-commitment that they will comply with the 3G rule in university operations. The university is obliged to check compliance with the 3G rule. This will take place in the form of regular, close-knit and consistent random checks.
