Britain’s Safer Internet Center has called for “urgent action” to help children understand the risks associated with such AI images, which are included in child sexual exploitation material. The organization said that while children can generate images to understand how the technology works, there is a risk that such images could be shared online and misused, for example as a means of blackmail.
Safer Internet Center Director Emma Hardy said that the AI images created by the students are photorealistic and difficult to distinguish from professionally taken pictures. She emphasizes that the possibility of misuse of the technology is frightening. Hardy also stressed the need to implement activities to curb the misuse of AI.
The organization has informed that it has currently received a small number of reports from schools about the use of AI image generators for the wrong purposes. That is why the Center for a Safer Internet calls on educational institutions to introduce monitoring systems to prevent the creation and distribution of inappropriate images.
