Students IJburg College receive a diploma in the Arena: ‘One Feyenoorder had a hard time’

No applause for goals, but for diplomas in the Johan Cruyff Arena. 279 students of the IJburg College passed their final exams, but a large party was not possible due to the corona crisis. That is why it was slightly different this year.

The grandstand is full of students, neatly 1.5 meters away. The awards are given per class, with two family members or friends per student. After the speeches in the stands, the students are allowed to put their signatures.

‘If you can arrange this in such a difficult period, it gives something extra. We wouldn’t have done that otherwise. So then you can say: every disadvantage has its advantage. I feel that way, especially today, ‘says director Jolanda Hogewind. The major drawback is mainly the shorter speeches by mentors and teachers. The location, however, makes up for it.

For most students it is a dream to get their piece of paper here, but for some it is just a little less. Where one likes it much more than ‘just at school’, there is also at least one student not quite in the right place. ‘I think most students find this very special. At least, one student said: “I am actually for Feyenoord, so this is very hard for me,” explains Hogewind.
