Students from the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy will develop conceptual concepts for the transformation of the space of the former GUM next to Troikata Square, known to the residents of the city as “the hole”. The projects will be developed within the framework of the tenth Summer School for students, which the university holds in Burgas.
The hosting of the sea city of the educational initiative is carried out with the support of the Municipality of Burgas as part of the agreement that the administration signed with the university earlier this year.
The presentation of the task for the tenth Summer School was attended by the mayor Dimitar Nikolov and the rector of UASG Assoc. Dr. Arch. Gichka Kutova – Kamenova, the deputy mayors Eng. Chanka Koralski, Mihail Nenov, as well as the chief architect of Burgas Municipality Tihomir Raychev.
During the meeting with the students, a team of architects from the Municipality of Burgas presented details about the past of the field and its current condition.
One of the tasks for future architects is to develop projects that preserve the structure of Troikata Square.
In their concepts, they should bet on the use of materials that prevent the formation of heat islands and bring more greenery to the area.
Among the conditions are the provision of places for recreation for the people living nearby, as well as the preservation of the historical continuity of the place and its neighboring objects. Conceptual concepts should also give harmonious permission to the development of the central area, which will satisfy people’s expectations to the maximum extent.
The conceptual developments will be presented to the Burgas public. Before starting the actual work, the students will be introduced to Burgazlians’ proposals for how to transform the site, which has been the subject of legal disputes for many years.
The holding of the tenth UASG Summer School is part of the Municipality’s agreement with the university.
Its purpose is to assist the University of Burgas Municipality by providing research experience and expert potential for solving problems in the field of urban planning, including providing qualified personnel for the specified needs.
For its part, the Municipality will assist the UASG by providing practical case studies for training needs, as well as organizing student internships in Burgas. The aim is thus to preserve and develop the Bulgarian higher technical education in order to prepare specialists with the necessary knowledge, skills and qualifications for successful professional realization for the needs of the public and private sectors.
The agreement between UASG and the Municipality of Burgas is the first step towards the opening of a branch of the University in Burgas.
