Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, SLP.- This Sunday, a group of 25 students from Soledad left from the main square of the municipality headed to Houston, Texas, United States, as part of the Nearshoring Mission 2024, a program facilitated by the City Council of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, through the Municipal Institute for Youth, to provide young people with international experiences through an agreement with the international firm University links.
Before beginning their trip abroad, the delegation was presented with the flag in an emotional ceremony, where the interim mayor, Araceli Martínez Pérez, led the event; she highlighted the importance of this experience as a unique opportunity for students to acquire new tools and knowledge for their professional and personal lives.
“We are here to bid farewell and wish success to a group of young people who are about to embark on a unique adventure, a trip to the United States that will help them learn, grow and open their minds to new cultures and perspectives,” he said.
In his speech, Gerardo Sosa Torres, head of the Municipal Youth Institute, highlighted the importance of this student project: “Misión Nearshoring opens international doors for our youth. Today we begin this journey not only representing our municipality, but all of San Luis Potosí. It is a summer program that offers job opportunities for young people with the possibility of staying there. You are paving the way for new generations, showing that dreams can come true.”
For his part, Feliciano Servin, representative of the youth delegation, called on his colleagues to enjoy and learn from this experience: “When we return tomorrow, we will be able to share this experience with our family, friends and colleagues and perhaps they will be able to learn from all the knowledge that we will acquire to carry it out there in the industry,” he said.
The trip itinerary includes visits to the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, the Port of Houston, the Sam Houston Bot, and the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park; one of the most anticipated highlights is the robotics workshop at NASA’s Johnson Space Center on August 27, where students will learn about building space rockets and coding robots.
On August 28, the youth will visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Health Museum, and enjoy a day at the Galveston Bay amusement park; the trip will conclude on August 29 with a conference on economic transformation and the opportunity to submit resumes through the Hire Houston Youth program, connecting them with employers in the United States.
Agents from the Soledad Traffic Police will guard the bus until it leaves the geographic limits of the municipality, ensuring its departure in orderly conditions.
