The current corona rules and high incidence figures in the district mean that there is almost no theoretical instruction in Nico Liebsch’s driving school in Havelberg. “I should only be able to train five learner drivers in my large classroom. But that is not possible at all with almost 30 beginners due to lack of time, ”he says. Which is why he has been teaching the theoretical lessons to everyone online every late Wednesday afternoon for several weeks. “Fortunately, every learner driver has the necessary technical prerequisites at home to be able to take part,” he says happily. “Even in this virtual space, everyone can ask their questions if they don’t understand something,” says Nico Liebsch. That works very well so far.
Only with automatic transmission
But there is still a lot more to report. For example, since April the practical driving school and, at the end of it, the driving test have only been carried out in cars with an automatic gearbox. The driving school has acquired two of these vehicles. “The learner drivers are much more relaxed during their training, they approach everything much more calmly,” the teacher noted. In this context, she also reports on the training plan to complete a total of ten hours of driving in a car with a normal manual transmission. “At the end of the course, I take a 15-minute exam from each student,” explains Nico Liebsch. This ensures that every learner driver has practical experience with the normal circuit.
Reinforced staff
During the Corona period, driving lessons could not be given all the time, “but in terms of personnel a lot has changed for the better,” we learn. So there is now another driving instructor who still serves in the Bundeswehr. From August, a former professional driver will also be trained as a driving instructor, who will take over the branch in Wittenberge in the future.
