Meissen. The occupancy rate in the technology and start-up center ICM in Triebisch Valley is currently 85 percent. This is the number given by ICM Managing Director Falk Müller when he presented the city company’s annual financial statements for 2020 to the city council. In terms of the annual result, he was able to announce an increase of 184,500 euros, which is mainly due to the renting of the Meißen University. The Saxon Administration University has been using rooms in the ICM for the training of students since 2019.

In the debate, the city council pointed out that the leasing of rooms in the ICM to the Meißen University will last until 2024 and that the university wants to create capacities to accommodate more students on campus. As the ICM managing director explained, he is in talks with other universities such as the TU Freiberg and start-ups who are looking for suitable premises.
The ICM, which was built on the premises of the former Scientific and Technical Center (WTZ) of the ceramics industry, feels connected to this tradition, explained Falk Müller. He named a ceramic cluster as a target. Small companies and research institutions could settle there in the ICM.
With a total of 52 tenants, all available rooms in the ICM are occupied. According to the managing director, the remaining 15 percent are currently not rentable. But they should be renovated and prepared. For example, funding from the GRW Infra program was applied for from the regional directorate in order to renovate the empty Hall 20.
