It was when entering class that the attack occurred. According to initial information from firefighters, the nest was located in a tree directly near the entrance to the school.

More than twenty people were on the scene at the time. Thirteen of them were bitten, ten children and three adults. Another twenty people remained confined in the school.

The Asian hornet, or Vespa velutina, is much more aggressive than the European hornet. Any approach to the nest within five meters can trigger an attack on the entire colony. Sometimes a loud noise can be enough to put her on alert.according to field observations by the Association Action Anti Frelon Asiatique.

The National Museum of Natural History, responsible for monitoring the species, provides some precautionary advice on the subject.

This species, imported into France in 2004, with goods, is now established in the entire metropolitan territory (with the exception of Corsica).
