Student stoned in Nigeria – insulting the prophet on WhatsApp as a motive

A student was stoned to death in Nigeria. The perpetrators are said to have killed the young woman for “insulting the prophet” on WhatsApp.

A group of young Muslims are said to have killed a Christian student in Nigeria and burned her body. It was apparently a stoning, in pictures on the Internet the dead student can be seen lying face down between dozens of stones. The events took place in the state of Sokoto.

This was preceded by a message from the young woman in a public WhatsApp group. In this she is said to have insulted the Prophet Mohammed. The “prophet insult” is said to have brought students to the deed.

Die police said: “The students forcibly took the victim from the security room where she was hidden by the school authorities, killed her and set the building on fire.”

Police announce arrest of students

According to a police announcement, the students involved are to be arrested. There are said to have been two arrests so far. Video material is now mainly evaluated. Meanwhile, the state government ordered the school closed. This is intended to make it possible to determine “the remote and immediate causes of the incident”.
