Alma has also just implemented a price increase from at least 3.75 euros to 6 euros. Still, according to Lips, this does not play a role in the decline in turnover. “The snacks are not stored and yet we see the same decrease in sales there,” says Lips.
When we address a few students on the street in Leuven, the desire to go to the Alma does not seem great. “I only went twice a month anyway, but now I’m not going anymore”, says a student. “They no longer serve hot dishes, I have heard and they have also become more expensive. I think that is a shame and I prefer to cook in my own room.”
Another student says she often goes to the Alma because it is reasonably tasty and cheap. “I suppose there are very few people now,” she says. “I heard that they also increase prices, and yes, that was precisely the reason for students to go because it was cheap. They also made the famous spaghetti from the menu, which many students came for.”
