Student Criticizes Paraguay’s Education System, Faces Censorship at Graduation

Asunción: The best graduate of the National School Fernando de la Mora had to present a censored speech of only four paragraphs to be approved, although on the day of the graduation ceremony he comprehensively questioned the education system and the authorities, including poor investments.

Nicolás González, who was in contact with the radio station Monumental 1080 AM, stated that his speech lasted five pages, but only part went viral because he criticized the education system.

The criticism ranged from the low investment in education and the use of money from the Fonacide fund to the lack of control of resources.

“I went to a reputed school, but we faced a lot of problems due to lack of materials and could not take advantage of education,” he said.

Likewise, González emphasized that there are many students who really want to learn and have no opportunity to do so, especially those from the interior of the country who have to come to the capital because there is a complete centralization of institutions there.

“You cannot expect education to improve when institutions are full of people who are not committed to education,” he stressed.

In the video that went viral, the student questions the curriculum and the need to adapt it to the needs of the students.

“The country must come out of the abyss of ignorance. Education must be excluded from the disastrous ranking of the worst in the world,” the young man attacked the Ministry of Education.

Finally, he assured that Paraguay is the second worst country in the world in terms of education. “Paraguay cannot continue to be the only country in the region that only invests 3.7% of its gross domestic product in education,” the graduate accused the authorities.
