Student at Bontang school detected with diphtheria, health office takes action

BONTANG – A student at SDN 005 North Bontang (BU) was detected with diphtheria, Wednesday (12/4/2023). Not only the school, the Bontang Health Office (Dinkes) also acted quickly to anticipate the spread of diphtheria.

Young Epidemiologist at the Bontang Health Office, Adi Permana, said that he had taken precautions at SDN 005 North Bontang, by administering a diphtheria vaccine to those around him who had direct contact with the student. Both at school and in the neighborhood.

“A screening was carried out and given a diphtheria vaccine, and prophylactic drugs were administered. With the medicine, the bacteria disappeared and stopped the transmission at that time,” Adi told Mediakaltim.com.

For students who have not yet completed the diphtheria vaccine, said Adi, it will also be given so that the prevention of diphtheria transmission can be maximized.

“The implementation of the diphtheria vaccine is carried out every year in August and November. Students who haven’t been able to participate, said Adi.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bontang Health Office, drg Toetoek Pribadi Ekowati added, the Health Office is also tracing the spread of contacts with those who are infected for early warning.

“We are tracing the spread of contact with those who are infected for our early warning, as well as providing vaccinations for students whose vaccines have not been complete due to yesterday’s pandemic,” Kadinkes added. (yah)
