Student accidentally orders half a million euros of teaching material | inland

A student at De Schalm Primary School in Vught accidentally spent half a million euros on teaching materials, reportedly Brabant transmission. The boy could easily create an account via the Malmberg publisher’s webshop, where he bought the licenses.

When he failed to log in during math class, the boy went to look for a solution himself. After some research on the internet, he was found to be able to log into the Malmberg website with his student account. It turned out to be the same domain name as that of the teachers.

“This was a learning point,” says Tom van Esch, director of the school. The mistake surfaced when the Malmberg sales staff saw the amount pass. The deal sounded too good to be true. That’s why a phone call was made to the school for safety. But they knew nothing about it.

“At first we thought we had been hacked,” says van Esch. But it soon became clear when they took another look at the name in the email address. “He is in group 7 with us”.
