Daniel Stucki has had an intense time. He experienced a transfer phase for the first time as FCB sporting director. The 42-year-old is satisfied with the squad composition.
In a media round, Daniel Stucki also commented on the departure of record player Fabian Frei. This transfer came as a surprise to the sports director. He was only informed of the transfer request on Monday morning, said Stucki. Frei’s departure made headlines. The club was once again criticized for the way it treated deserving players. “Unworthy departure” or “Frei did not deserve such a departure” were the headlines. But finding the ideal departure is anything but easy, says Stucki.
Daniel Stucki believes that direct and honest communication is important. He sees it as an advantage that he can approach the matter very neutrally. He has no direct connections or other influences that he has to take into account. For example, Stucki has never played with Frei or Xhaka.
The exchange with President David Degen is intensive. Stucki stresses, however, that Degen has not made any operational transfers. Financially, FC Basel is in a good position. In terms of player wages, the balance sheet looks the same as last season. So there has been no upgrade, explains sports director Stucki.
