The President of the Republic, Alexander Stubb, revealed that he calmed down after getting access to the secret information addressed to the President.

– The way things have been presented to the former future president gave strong faith in the capacity of our society – not only to uphold the rule of law, but also security. I am grateful and proud of that. In other words, I feel significantly even safer than I did before February 11, Stubb said in his first press conference as president.

Stubb’s comment was a response to Iltalehti’s political reporter Kreeta Karvala’s question, which was asked at the end of the event.

Karvala started his question by stating that Stubb is the most informed person in Finland. The President of the Republic of Finland also has access to such secret information that he still had access to as a presidential candidate.

– Are you now more worried about Finland’s security than when you were a presidential candidate, Karvala asked.

The question visibly surprised Stubb.

– That is a very good question. I didn’t really expect to get it, Stubb began.

He said that the first “deep briefings” give faith in the system and the security situation.

– In fact, they strengthen it considerably from what I assumed it would be. I always knew that our defense forces, the border, all the authorities work seamlessly.

“The new president of the republic adapts to the situation”

In the same speech, Stubb was asked what Finland and the Finns should be prepared for and whether Stubb’s first trip to the NATO exercise is some kind of sign.

According to Stubb, Finland’s degree of preparedness is good.

– Of course there will always be black swans. Surprises will happen. The important thing is to be able to react to them in an appropriate way.

According to Stubb, the first business trip to the NATO exercise is a sign of the beginning of a new era. The new president of the republic will visit Lapland’s NATO exercise only a week after taking office.

The Prime Minister of Norway is traveling with him to the NATO exercise Jonas Gahr Støre.

Even two years ago, Stubb would have turned his head at the idea.

– The new president of the republic will adapt to the situation, Stubb concluded.
