NEW DELHI – Government India denounced large crowds of residents in popular northern tourist spots. The behavior was declared a “gross violation” of health protocol measures that could trigger a spike in cases of COVID-19 infection.

Citizens in the country of 1.3 billion people are still stubbornly violating health protocols. In fact, the country has been hit by a wave of COVID-19-related infections and deaths in April and May that sparked a crisis in the healthcare system.

The crisis is seen as starting to subside, with many states lifting restrictions and reopening vacation spots.

With northern India scorching hot in the summer ahead of the annual monsoon season, many people travel to the beautiful Himalayan states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Public anger arose after images and videos circulated on social media of traffic jams en route to popular sites and large crowds of people, some without masks, visiting shopping districts without social distancing.
