Stubb will be the candidate for the conservative Samlingspartiet, which is Høyre’s sister party.
– When the fatherland calls, you stand up, said Stubb at a press conference in Helsinki on Wednesday.
On the social democratic side, SDP’s party leader Sanna Marin has wanted EU Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen, but the message will not come until November.
The presidential election in Finland will be held on 28 January 2024. The president is Finland’s head of state and is responsible for the country’s foreign policy in addition to being commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
