Struggles Persist for Star Wars: Jedi Survivor PC Port, Critics Slam Technical Issues

September 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by Valentin Sattler – Even several months after the release of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, the PC port of the game is still struggling with problems, according to Eurogamer. The shader compilation, inadequacies in the controls and the still mediocre performance are criticized.

EA and Respawn Entertainment could have had a hit with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but at least on the PC the game was massively slowed down by technical problems. This was reflected in user satisfaction: during the PS5 version of the game auf Metacritic is rated with an average of 6.2 out of 10, players only give the PC port a devastating 3.4 points.

Still problems

A few months have now passed since the release on April 28th, so the developers have had time to address the problems with the PC port. According to a report from Eurogamer, this only happened to a limited extent. Even after several patches, the game’s condition is still said to be so bad that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues to be described as the worst AAA PC port of the year.

For example, it is criticized that the shaders are still compiled every time the game is started, even though this would actually only be necessary the first time it is started. In addition, there are apparently still stutters during the game due to shaders that are prepared during runtime – and in general the performance is not yet perfect.

At that time, the image quality also left something to be desired, which was allegedly caused by display errors in animations and mediocre implementations of TAA and FSR 2. At least support for DLSS has now been added to the game, although DLSS 3 again has difficulties with the display of the user interfaces.

On top of that, according to Eurogamer, there are still problems with the game beyond the graphics. The mouse control in the menu isn’t quite as bad anymore, but it’s not perfect either. For example, you can’t change the resolution if you don’t use a gamepad.

After all, the development of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is ongoing, so there is still hope for further improvements. However, given the time that has already passed, it will probably be a long time before the PC port of the game is really good – if it ever succeeds at all.
