Martin Stropnický and Veronika Žilková will divorce. He sent her to the water, but he hadn’t said a word about it yet. Everything we know about the end of the 18-year relationship was revealed by the actress. According to her, the former defense minister and ambassador to Israel broke up with her by e-mail, saying that she no longer loved her. For the last week, Czech show business has been living mainly through the divorce of Žilková and Stropnický. However, the information so far only flows from one side. The actor and politician decided not to say anything about the break-up of the marriage.
“I don’t want to get divorced. My husband told me that he didn’t want to go back home in Israel, here in our house. Like that family, that he didn’t want to go back,” Žilková told Nova television.
Why did Stropnický choose a tactic in which he does not threaten to betray the unwanted, but at the same time creates a huge space for speculation? Here are five reasons that probably led him to the strategy:
1. He wants to avoid complications. Speak silver, keep silent gold. Since Stropnický already has one divorce behind him, he must be well aware that it is necessary to weigh every sentence. In addition, this is doubly true for celebrities. By not talking to the public about divorce, and only Žilková is doing so, she is creating room for maneuver, which could later be of sacramental use to him. 2. A new partner keeps him in check. According to Žilková, although Stropnický does not have a compensation for it, until he says it himself, a new love cannot be ruled out. “He wrote in that e-mail that if someone else appears, it is a consequence, not a cause,” says Žilková. 3. The power of diplomacy. Stropnický has been serving as the Czech ambassador to Israel since November 2018. In three and a half years, diplomatic practices could get under his skin to the point that he simply cannot deal with privacy in public. He prefers to discuss everything with Žilková behind the curtain so that no one can abuse his statement.
4. Try to keep media attention to a minimum. “He probably wants to avoid being dragged through the media space. I completely understand that he has decided not to say anything about it and I will not comment on it either,” his son Matěj Stropnický told TN.cz on Monday. And it is true that bad advertising is also advertising, but it does not apply to all and to ambassadors separately.
5. He is a gentleman in body and soul. Stropnický does not want to hurt Žilková by communicating with her through the newspaper. He e-mailed everything he needed and discussed further details with her in person.
