Strong wind keeps house: party tent in the air and blown fences

It is a stormy Thursday evening in Brabant. Reports of storm damage are coming in from across the province, from broken branches to blown-away party tents and blown-down fences.

Gerrie van Rossum from Gemert saw his party tent go up in the air on Thursday evening. “We are renovating the house, so we had put stuff under the tent. Around a quarter to eight I heard something and then I saw it flying about forty meters through the air,” he says.

The tent was well secured, but not well enough. “It was four houses away in the neighbor’s yard. It was a bit of a shock, but luckily no one was injured.”

Not only the party tent had to suffer. Several fences in the gardens were also destroyed by the wind. “The pillar of our fence has snapped in the middle. And neighbors also had their fence down. So there is quite a bit of damage,” says Gerrie.

In Uden, part of the air system of theater Markant broke down.

At the Gelrehof in Ravenstein, a branch threatened to break off a tree and fall on a house. That’s why the fire brigade removed the branch.
