Heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and torrential rains hit the Czech Republic today, killing two people, local officials said, quoted by the Associated Press.
According to police, the victim’s car was hit by a fallen tree near the town of Pisek in southern Bohemia. There were also two children in the car who were injured and taken to hospital. Police said the victims were the children’s parents.
In southwestern Bohemia, a railway line was blocked by fallen trees and another was flooded.
The Czech Meteorological Service has warned of strong thunderstorms, which are forecast to affect the central part of the country.
Two weeks ago, a powerful storm swept through the southeastern part of the Czech Republic, killing six people and leaving hundreds injured.
