Strong storms caused flooding in Pilsen and damage in Šumava

The worst situation was reported from Pilsen, where torrential rains they caused the flooding of several smaller streams within a few hours. Some municipalities had to declare a state of emergency and local firefighters were forced to evacuate residents from several houses threatened by rising water. The floods mainly affected areas around Kralovice, where water flooded roads and cut off access to several villages.

Firefighters in Zbiroz in Rokycansk, where the situation regarding rain and storms was the worst in the Pilsen region, are still working. “There are dozens of flooded houses here, we had to evacuate one person from the gas station, who was swept away by water and mud. We will still pull out one car,” informed the commanding officer of the fire department, Vladislav Bareš, adding that the accident on D5 is also being dealt with in connection with the rain, but it should not have serious consequences. There are approximately two dozen volunteer firefighters from Zbiroh and the surrounding villages.

Strong storms also affected Šumavawhere they caused significant damage to forest stands. Strong winds uprooted trees that blocked several roads and hiking trails. The administration of the Šumava National Park has therefore called on visitors to avoid certain areas until the situation is fully under control.

“The damage is extensive, the roads are impassable in several places and remain closed until the fallen trees are removed,” said Jan Dvořák, the spokesman for the park administration.
The director of NP Šumava, Pavel Hubený, added, “that in some parts of Šumava, above-average rainfall has already fallen for the 4th month”.

“Storm cells are forming in Vimpersk and Sušicke almost without movement or are slowly expanding to the northeast and east to Strakonicko and Prachaticko,” meteorologists on the X network announced before three o’clock in the afternoon.
