Strong Passport 2023: Japan leads, Germany third, India 85th | Worlds Most Powerful Passports 2023 List is out Germany News

Berlin ∙ Germany has been ranked third in a new 2023 list of the world’s most powerful passports. Japan is number one. The list was released by the US company Henley and Partners. It has been analyzing the development of visa regulations since 2006 and regularly publishes the Passport Index. This index shows how many countries holders of each passport are allowed to enter in a ranking of the most valuable passports.

Holders of a German passport are entitled to visa-free entry to 190 countries during corona-free times. Germany is ahead of Japan with 193 visa-free travel countries, Singapore and South Korea with 192 countries each. Only Spain is level with Germany. India’s position is 85. 59 countries can travel visa-free.

European countries like Finland, Italy and Luxembourg are behind Germany. Its citizens can visit 189 countries without a visa. It is followed by Denmark, Sweden, Austria and the Netherlands (188 countries). Great Britain (187) and the USA (186) are close behind.

In 2023, Russia will be in 49th place. It is far behind Ukraine. While the Russian passport allows entry to 118 countries, the Ukrainian passport allows entry to 144 countries. Meanwhile, Afghanistan ranks last in the index behind Pakistan, Syria and Iraq. Afghan passport holders are only allowed to travel to 27 countries.
