Strong mobilization for blood collection in Quillan

Last Tuesday, the René-Pont room welcomed the French Blood Establishment (EFS) for its blood collection, a precious, essential and irreplaceable good for saving lives. The EFS welcomed 66 donors including three new ones, a higher attendance than that observed in recent months, which will allow us to strengthen the reserves during this school holiday period.

It should be remembered that each donation saves three lives since the blood bags are separated into three blood products: red blood cells which are transfused for example in the event of massive hemorrhage, platelets which are intended in particular for patients treated for cancers or leukemias and plasma which makes it possible, among other things, to manufacture essential drugs for the treatment of genetic diseases. No product can replace human blood and blood products have a short lifespan, only seven days for platelets, which is why regular donations are necessary.

Among the many donors, Jean-Luc confides: “For me, it is a civic duty that was instilled in me from a very young age, out of solidarity with the sick. An action that takes on its full meaning in this type of selfless approach“. Patricia continues: “For my part, it is essential to participate in this collection to save lives, perhaps one day I will be the one who needs it “.

The doctor responsible for the collection, Bruno Dechamp, appreciated the room provided, spacious, bright and very suitable for collections. “They are essential and we constantly need regular donations because there are always high demands for various pathologies and emergency interventions. “.

Donating blood makes it possible to treat several thousand patients each year, unfortunately the reserves are too often worrying, knowing that in the Occitanie region, 1,000 donations are necessary every day to meet the needs of patients.

Appointment January 6, 2025 for the next Quillan collection, still at the René-Pont room.
