Strong gusts of wind affected Maracaibo and San Francisco in the state of Zulia

Strong gusts of wind and rain affected the metropolitan area of Maracaibo y San Francisco in the early hours of this Thursday causing falls of trees, traffic lights and structures.

He Mayor of Maracaibo, Rafael Ramírezasked residents to protect themselves and remain calm in the face of the situation.

The municipal authority is addressing the damage caused by the winds on Padilla Avenue where a tree, an electric pole and a traffic light fell.

“We work as a team with Corpoelec, Civil Protection, Firefighters, Municipal Police and the National Guard to protect the area while we remove the tree from the main avenue,” explained the mayor.

Likewise, he indicated that two traffic lights also went down in Plaza Urdaneta and Plaza El Ángel and are already being attended to.

In San Francisco, the mayor Gustavo Fernandez reported about “two fallen trees in the Domitila Flores parish, two in the Marcial Hernández parish and one in the parish.”

Fernández said that “the rapid response of our municipal Firefighters, Civil Protection, Citizen Security, Polisur and Operations management teams are managing contingencies, clearing the streets and minimizing damage in our municipality.”
