Strong finish by the youngsters on the final day of USM 16–17 – Friidrottsförbundet

The final day of USM 16-17 was a perfect start in consistently windy conditions. Ljungby turned out to be sunnier, but the youngsters had to struggle in the wind, which made the long jumpers feel like they were flying further. Playoffs, personal bests and triple gold are among the highlights of the day.

There were extremely strong winds on the long jump track for P17 and F17, which meant extremely long jumps. For the boys, it was Erik Petersson who stood at the top of the podium when he reached almost seven meters with 6.94. Miron Weber flew as far as 6.74 with +7.9 in the back and took the money. Anton Roslund from Hammarby IF took the bronze with a jump of 6.44.

Maya Lilja takes her second gold in the championships and wins the long distance final for F17 with the longest jump ever 5.95, but unfortunately with too much wind, +5.6. Emilia Blomdahl is up and touching her season best and is in second place with 5.62. Wilda Runeborg from Råby-Rekarne FIF was close to a silver spot but became the bronze medalist one centimeter behind Emilia in 5.61.

Throwing star Oscar Juhlén takes triple gold

All-round throwing star Oscar Juhlén from Upsala IF remains the strongest and wins not only hammer and shot but also discus P16. The longest throw for Oscar is 49.90. He was joined on the podium by Sävedalen AIK’s Arman Kosovic and Hammarby’s Albin Wolgast with 45.26 and 44.70 respectively. New personal best for both Arman and Albin.

However, there was hope when the discus final for the boys in P17 started. It was Elias Andersson from Wärnamo SK who got the gold medal in the last round when he crossed the 55 meter line for the first time, a personal best 55.29. Before the final round, it was Liam Belo Da Silva from IFK Växjö who got the silver spot, but Christoffer Bélec from Hammarby came close to the silver medal when he threw 53.57. However, the result was not enough for Christoffer to climb up to second place, but he became the bronze medalist. Liam managed to defend his career with his longest throw of 53.58.

Astrid Fakelius and Philip Antivilo Lindsjöö win in the steeplechase finals

Before the final of the hurdles, it was very windy with a strong continuous head on the race. Astrid Fakelius from Brattås CK cuts the hedges at the end without fail and gets the first 13.92 in F16. Jamilia Bernhardsson comes second with 14.06 and despite the headwind, Olivia Pihl ran to a new personal best with 14.19 and took the bronze.

In P16, it was Philip Antivilo Lindsjöö from Hässelby who took home the gold. He makes an impressive run and hits dunderpers with 14.87. Upsala IF’s Elias Karén ran a hundredth faster than the bronze medalist and took the silver in 15.02, ahead of IFK Göteborg’s Edvin Örnborg who ran a personal best 15.03.

Vilmer Karlsson sprints to gold – nearly two minutes in P16,800 meters

Hammarby IF’s Vilmer Karlsson ran a tactical race in the 800-meter final for P17. IF Karlstad’s Jacob Åhman took the lead and was at the front for almost the entire race until Vilmer put in a long sprint with 120 meters to go. The competitors could not respond and he ran into the gold time 1:57.68. Petter Oster from Hälle IF also shows himself strong at the end and becomes the silver medal winner with 1:58.48. Jacob takes third place in 1:59.42.

For P16, he was very close to the boys on the podium getting under two minutes. Max Pettersson from KA 2 IF took the gold with 2:00.24. Close behind was Lukas Linder from Höörs IS who ran in 2:00.56. David Wallén from Västerås FK hits a new season’s best 2:01.67.

Revenge for Evelina Olsson in 200 meters

Evelina Olsson got her revenge when it was time for the 200-meter final in F16. After falling earlier on the hurdles in the morning, she ran for the gold and with a strong finish, the gold time was 24.66 for Evelina. The silver went to Jamilia Bernhardsson from Kalmar SK with 25.03 and Ellinor Wennolf from Malmö AI took the bronze in 25.16.

Rain’s personal record on the long hurdle

A personal best for the entire podium was F17 in the 400 meter hurdles after a hard fought battle for the types in the race. Lilly Loggner of KA 2 IF managed to take home the gold with a new personal best with half a second of 1:02.56. Julia Swerin from Lerum Friidrott and Linnea Johansson from Sävedalen AIK get under 1.04 for the first time, Julia with 1:03.34 and Linnea with 1:03.93.

Turebergs FK’s Jakob Lennermark remains the strongest on the long hurdle in P17. With the fastest time before the final, he also took the gold in 54.62. IFK Göteborg’s Rasmus Arnell shows good form as he runs into the silver time 54.78 and for Henrik Deresiewicz it is very personal with 55.20 and a bronze medal.

The 2000 meter steeplechase concludes this weekend’s competitions

The weekend ended with the 2000 meter steeplechase where most of the podium places were run on new personal bests.

It went really fast with P16 running away, which gave eight of the guys in the starting field a good personal lead. Strong runner Jonas Atlassi from IFK Lidingö took the lead from the start and led the entire race. He also extended his lead at the end and won in another personal best 6:18.82. Huddinge AIS’s Rasmus Berglund, who earlier this year was fastest over the distance, took second place with 6.23.77. Isak Steiner from Västerås FK ran in 6.27.13.
