Carnival is back like the good old days. After two years of health crisis, street orchestras and itinerant groups will perform on Sunday January 8, 2023 in Le Lamentin, in a circuit that will start from Place Mahaut and cross the city center. This post-covid edition is obviously special.
Carnival, a popular event in Martinique, is officially launched this Sunday January 8, 2023 in Le Lamentin.
In the history books, this tradition that began in the 17th century was born in Martinique in the city of art and history, Saint-Pierre, from the meeting of European and African cultures. This is a strong moment for social cohesion.
After the epiphany, orchestras, associations, revelers, walking groups launch themselves to honor King Vaval who is reborn from his ashes every year.
The first fashion shows with “Petrol Band”
For this year’s reunion, the organizers have put the small pots into the big ones. While the election of the queen is finalized, the city of Le Lamentin intends to play its role as a catalyst. The street orchestra “Pétrol’ Band” and the municipality invite revelers to this opening parade Sunday 8 January 2023 at 4.00pm
As many as 8 street orchestras, Sa Ki Fèt Fèt, Nou Pa Sav, A Sou Yo, (from Lamentin) Otantik Gerikan Bass, (Le Robert), Baryl Band (from Lorrain) and Karnival All Star (Le Francois) will compete in rhythms , costumes and choreography.
The course is to be walked twice. The departure will be given in Place Mahault near the Calebassier bridge before following the following circuit: rue Ernest André – rue Victor Schœlcher – rue Pierre Zobda Quitman – rue Léonce Bayardin – rue Ernest Maugée – rue Hardy de Saint-Omer – rue des Barriers extended – rue Ernest André (up to rue Schœlcher).
The party promises to be beautiful, especially since the organizers have put all the credentials on their side for total success, knowing they can count not only on popular fervor, but also on civic responsibility.
A great walk through the streets of the city center is planned, with all the ingredients of the party, music but also popular songs and the tradition of bands and costumes.
