An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 was registered in the eastern part of Tajikistan, the US Geophysical Institute reported. The tremor occurred at 05:37 local time at a depth of about 20.5 km.
Its epicenter is in the Upper Badakhshan Autonomous Region, bordering Afghanistan and China. This territory is sparsely populated and is surrounded by the huge Pamir mountain range, noted AFP.
