JawaPos.com – Who says strong drugs increase a man’s risk of prostate cancer? Head of the Uronephrology Cluster at RSCM Kencana, Dr. Widi Atmoko, Sp.U(K), FECMS, FICS, explained that the drug which is believed to help men during lovemaking sessions has nothing to do with the risk of prostate cancer.
However, this drug has the potential to cause other problems, for example disorders of the blood vessels. “Strong drugs are related to problems with blood vessels and blood pressure, so there are some contraindications, for example there are strong drugs in the nitrate group which can lower blood pressure. You have to be careful,” said Dr. Widi, Friday (22/9).
For this reason, Dr. Widi suggests that men who experience erection problems should first consult a doctor, instead of immediately taking strong medication. “That’s why you have to see a doctor to give this medicine, so you can’t just buy it directly at a pharmacy. If you buy it at a pharmacy (which is correct) you will definitely ask for a prescription,” he said.
For your information, prostate cancer is a type of cancer that grows in the prostate gland in men, which plays a role in the formation of ejaculatory fluid. A common symptom experienced by prostate cancer sufferers is difficulty urinating.
Prostate cancer in the early stages often does not show typical symptoms. However, suspicion will increase if symptoms such as bone pain, pathological fracture (bone fracture due to disease) appear, or compression of the bone marrow.
Talking about factors that can increase the risk of prostate cancer include older age because usually this disease is more often diagnosed after the age of 50 years, family history, and obesity. Additionally, diet and lifestyle play a role in this risk. A diet high in saturated fat can increase the risk of prostate cancer.
When we talk about strong medicine again, Dr. Widi actually allows young adult men to take strong medicines sold on the market as long as they match the dosage and are purchased at an official pharmacy. Don’t buy it anywhere, considering that research shows that many drugs in circulation are fake.
“For young adults, men in their 30s, is it safe or not? That’s fine. If you say it’s safe, it’s safe. However, according to the dosage,” he said.
Widi said he once found a patient with erectile dysfunction in his 30s with a history of heavy smoking and obesity. According to him, in principle the treatment given is by administering medication, while evaluating other health problems that patients face such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
Erectile dysfunction is one of the male sexual disorders that prevents individuals from achieving satisfying sexual activity. Referring to data from RSCM, Dr Widi said, more than a third of men aged 20-80 years experience erectile dysfunction.
According to the definition, male sexual disorders can occur in each phase of the sexual response. When described, sexual disorders can include low desire disorders, hypogonadism (low testosterone levels), erectile dysfunction or impotence, ejaculation and orgasm disorders.
Apart from that, there can also be penile deformities such as penile curvature, penis size abnormalities and dysmorphophobia, as well as priapism or prolonged erection without stimulation. According to Dr. Widi, the causes of sexual disorders are very diverse and can generally be divided into psychological, organic (abnormalities in terms of anatomy or organ function), or mixed.
“Even though the concept of sexual disorders still actually includes broader concepts such as sexual, biological, psychosexual, sociocultural and interpersonal relationship problems,” he concluded.
