Gas prices in Europe are dropping sharply another session, after a 23% drop on Thursday. More and more tankers with American gas for countries in the region are crossing the Atlantic, brokers inform.
Dutch gas contracts drop by 20 percent on Friday. to 105.88 euros per megawatt hour, after hitting new highs earlier this week.
Until Thursday 15 US tankers with liquefied natural gas declared ports in Europe as their destinations, incl. in Great Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Gibraltar and Malta.
An additional 11 LNG tankers are yet to be announced, but they appear to be on their way to Europe as well.
In Europe, the next wave of the energy crisis has intensified in recent days, following the shutdown of several nuclear reactors in France, a decline in gas flows from Russia and low wind energy production in Germany, which has worsened the energy shortage. This forces countries in the region to burn more coal to keep homes light and warm.
Europe’s gas storage facilities are currently less than 58% full.
