On the 15th (Wednesday), the winter-type pressure pattern will continue, and strong chills will persist. It snows on the Sea of Japan side, and it is likely that there will be places with heavy snowfall. The Pacific side will be as cold as midwinter. On the contrary, the temperature will rise this weekend, and it looks like it will be warm ahead of the season. The temperature difference will increase.

How long will the cold weather last?

Today, the 14th (Tuesday), the area around Japan has a winter-type atmospheric pressure pattern, and it is snowing widely on the Sea of Japan side.

The winter-type atmospheric pressure pattern will continue through tomorrow, the 15th (Wednesday), and the chill will persist. Around 1,500 meters above sea level, cold air with a temperature of -6°C or less (a guideline for snow falling on flat land) is expected to cover Honshu, and even colder temperatures of -12°C or less are expected to flow into the Sea of Japan side of western Japan. Hokkaido and the Sea of Japan side of Honshu will see a lot of snow, and there will be heavy snow in places centering on Tohoku and Hokkaido. In the vicinity of Sapporo City, the snowfall will become stronger in a short time, and there is a risk that the amount of snow will increase rapidly. It is necessary to be cautious and vigilant of traffic obstacles caused by heavy snow, such as stuck cars. There will be sunny weather on the Pacific side, but a cold north wind is likely to blow.

On the 16th (Thursday), the winter-type pressure pattern will loosen from the west, and the snow in the three prefectures of Hokuriku from San’in will gradually weaken. On the other hand, in Niigata Prefecture, Tohoku, and the Sea of Japan side of Hokkaido, the snow will continue, and the snowfall is expected to increase further.

High pressure will cover the 17th (Friday), and the cold air will move northward. It will be sunny from Kyushu to Kanto, and the snow on the Sea of Japan side of Niigata Prefecture to Hokkaido is expected to weaken.

On the 19th (Sunday), a low pressure system will pass near Japan, and the weather will collapse widely. As the warm air flows in, it is likely that there will be many places where it will rain instead of snow in the flatlands from Kyushu to Tohoku.

On the 21st (Tuesday), the winter-type pressure pattern will strengthen again, and snow will fall from Hokuriku to the north on the Sea of Japan side. There is also a risk of heavy snowfall in Tohoku and Hokkaido. Please pay attention to the latest information.

From now on, the weather will change in short cycles.

Temperatures will rise over the weekend, the temperature difference will be large

From now on, temperature fluctuations are likely to increase.

The maximum temperature will be lower than normal until the 16th (Thursday). From Kyushu to Kanto, the temperature is below 10°C even during the day, and it looks like it will be as cold as midwinter. Hokuriku will be below 5°C, and Tohoku and Hokkaido will be freezing in some places (maximum temperature below 0°C). The minimum temperature is also lower than normal in many places, and it is likely to be severely cold.

The temperature will rise after the 17th (Friday). From the 18th (Sat) to the 20th (Mon), both the maximum and minimum temperatures will be above average, and many places will be warmer than usual. From Kyushu to Kanto, there will be places where the temperature rises to around 15 degrees Celsius during the day. Hokuriku will have temperatures above 10°C, Tohoku will have temperatures above 5°C, and there will be days when Hokkaido will have temperatures above plus. In places where a lot of snow remains, it is necessary to be careful of snow melting disasters such as avalanches, falling snow from roofs, and flooding of roads due to melted snow.

However, on the 21st (Tuesday), cold air will flow in, and the season will be reversed. It will be bitterly cold.

From now on, the weather will change in a short period of time, and the temperature difference is likely to become quite large. Please dress appropriately and pay attention to your physical condition.

What is the temperature and clothing guidelines?

The chart above is a guideline for temperature and clothing. Since the sensation of heat and cold varies from person to person, it is only a guideline, but please use it as a reference when choosing clothes.

①Less than 5℃
In severe cold weather, perfect protection against the cold is necessary. Protect yourself from the cold by wearing a down coat, a scarf, and gloves.
②5°C or more and less than 10°C
It’s really cold, and it’s time for a winter coat. It is necessary to take measures against the cold, such as wearing a warm sweater under the coat.
③10℃ or more and less than 15℃
At temperatures above 10°C, trench coats are recommended. If the temperature is around 15 degrees Celsius, you can wear a sweater without a jacket in the sunshine.

The sensible temperature is affected not only by the air temperature, but also by the strength of the wind. It is generally said that if the wind speed increases by 1 meter, the perceived temperature drops by 1°C. On windy days, it’s a good idea to put on a few layers of clothing or wear a thick jacket.

Please check the weather forecast for daily temperature and wind, and choose appropriate clothing for that occasion.
