Vincent Notz (ST Bern) managed an exploit at the indoor meeting in Magglingen. The 24-year-old ran over 600 m alone and without competitors at speed, and in the end there was an all-time Swiss best over this distance. Notz was 8 hundredths of a second faster than Gregor Hagmann in 1983 in 1: 19.02 minutes. The 600 m is rarely run, so Notz’s performance is a national best, but not a Swiss record.
Among the women, two Bernese athletes stood out with strong performances. Ditaji Kambundji (ST Bern) undercut the 60 m hurdles in 8.21 seconds for the European Indoor Championships, which will take place in Torun (POL) at the beginning of March. The 18-year-old also equalized the Swiss U-20 record of Noemi Zbären from Langnau. It would not be surprising if she were to lower the record from Zbären during the indoor season.
Cynthia Reinle (TV Unterseen) is also in good shape. The 20-year-old from the Bernese Oberland also undercut the indoor European championship limit over 60 m in 7.39 seconds. Whether she will be allowed to start in Torun is not certain. With Ajla del Ponte, Salome Kora, Sarah Atcho, Géraldine Frey and Riccarda Dietsche, five other sprinters have also reached the limit, and only three Swiss women are allowed to compete in the European Championship.
