Strong and severe thunderstorms announced in these districts in Franconia

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of further stormy thunderstorms with heavy rain on Sunday afternoon (25.07.2021). The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of severe storms, especially in the Alps and in the Bavarian Forest, but parts of Franconia are also affected.

Severe weather warning in Franconia

According to the DWD, clouds and short sunny sections should alternate on Sunday. During the day, more showers and thunderstorms are to be expected. In the night of Monday, however, the storms are supposed to subside for the time being.

Monday will be drier and at times the sun will come out. Only towards the end of the day can there be another thunderstorm.

A warning from the DWD applies in francs to the following districts:

  • District and city of Schweinfurt – There is a risk of strong thunderstorms (level 2 of 4).
  • Haberge district – There is a risk of strong thunderstorms (level 2 of 4).
  • District Neustadt ad Aisch-Bad Windsheim – There is a risk of severe thunderstorms (level 3 of 4).

  • District and city of Coburg – There is a risk of strong thunderstorms (level 2 of 4).

  • Lichtenfels district – There is a risk of severe thunderstorms (level 3 of 4).
  • District and city of Frth – There is a risk of strong thunderstorms (level 2 of 4).

The DWD informs:

At level 2 (strong thunderstorms):

  • There may be lightning strikes locally. There is a danger to life in the event of lightning!
  • In isolated cases, for example, trees can be uprooted and roofs damaged. Pay particular attention to falling branches, roof tiles or objects.
  • During the downpour, temporary obstructions to traffic are possible.

At level 3 (severe thunderstorms)

  • Among other things, widespread serious damage to buildings is possible. Trees can be uprooted and roof tiles, branches or objects can be tumbled down.
  • Flooding of cellars and streets as well as local flooding on streams and small rivers are possible. For example, landslides can occur.
  • Close all windows and doors!
  • Secure items outdoors!
  • In particular, keep your distance from buildings, trees, barley and high-voltage lines!
  • Avoid being outdoors as much as possible!
